There are reports of a reduction gear near this location, but we would not describe this in that way.

Peak District Air Crashes says there is a second one of these just below the fuselage, but we did not see it, and they are hard to miss. Alan Clark from the site comments as follows:" I see the other engine hasn't re-appeared at the C-47, it vanished in the flash flooding in 2002 (when Glossop was drowned), the engine that is now out in the gully was previously buried and quite a bit higher up before the flooding."

Ashton Clough: C-47 Dakota 42-108982

Today's main effort was to climb Ashton Clough, and see how much of the Douglas C47 which crashed at the top of the hill had found its way into the clough. The posts above this one represent the wreckage found in order, with the highest bit at the top of the page, and the lowest just above this.
