Fieseler Fi-103 (V-1) Cruise Missile: Burbage Edge

V1: Burbage Edge

The field the witness gave as the site contains quite a number of depressions, none of which look all that much like a bomb crater to us. Only one of them shows a trace of metal, and this one isn't it. We weren't convinced that there was any sign of a V1 impact in this field at all.

It's well known locally that there are only about three surnames this close to Buxton(cue "Duelling banjos" from "Deliverance"). This might be considered in evaluating the trustworthiness of statements of locals.

Airspeed Consul TF-RPM

We went back to the Consul at Crow Stones Edge. Someone (whoever was digging at our last visit?) seems to have partially dismantled the engine at the bottom of the pit shown on our previous visit post) and taken half of it away. They had re-covered the partially dismantled engine with sheets of aluminium, and wrapped the shaft and exposed casing with plastic bags to protect it from the elements. It seems they intend to remove the lot a bit at a time...You can see more pics of this on my Flickr site.

It isn't a war grave, but all the same, this seems out of order...
