Handley-Page Halifax HR727
Great weather last Saturday for an outing with Matt ZX on Kinder.
We only saw two of the wreckage piles we found back when we were looking for this and the nearby Wellington on the day, but we didn't search at all of the old coordinates. Feel free to look for yourself and get back to me...
This is the largest of the three Halifax wreckage piles we found back then. All looked pretty much as before.

There has been lots of moving stuff around at this site, and there's a bit less than there was last time, but there wasn't that much to being with, at least during the time I've been going to it.
Matt found a few buckles....

Halifax and Mosquito: Great Whernside
Awaiting Identification: Great Whernside

We went up to Yorkshire yesterday in search of some bigger bits of aircraft wreckage. There are at least seven 'planes downed on Great Whernside, above Kettlewell in the Yorkshire Dales, so we gave that a go. Nice village. Big hill, on such a warm day.
This bit was found on the far side of the Mosquito wreck site from the Halifax crash location. Serial numbers and inspection stamps we found on the part however suggest that it is from the Halifax. The wreckage fields for Mosquito and Halifax are therefore overlapping. They did crash very close to each other. Details of the Halifax and Mosquito in the following posts.

We'd probably have found those without help, as they are right on the path, and the memorial stands out, but this one is more or less down to Richard Allenby's assistance.

A wet and windy one today, so only got one wreck, this Hampden crash site near Holme. I'm holding a big chunk of iron, with some smaller bits of aluminium balanced on top, discovered by metal detection in the explosion crater.
Yes, I know it could be a dog turd from this small photo but ask yourself, would I be cupping a dog turd in my hands?

We failed to find the small fragments which are all that is left of the Miles Hawk Trainer Mk.III G-AJSF which was supposed to be quite close to this site. Next time!
We heard quite a gruesome story about this wreck from someone who was there at the time.
