Visited the cairn site at SK 03564 98897 and could find no traces of the small amounts of wreckage that used to be there :(

I did find what looked like a prop-shaft with gear at SK 0353 9891. I'm dubious it's from the Hurricanes. I've got pics if anyone is interested?

Thanks for your comment, John. I'll have to go up and take a look at those coords, though they had blocked off the car park I used to always use last time I passed by.

Sean - I parked on Crossgate Lane by Arnfield Reservoir and climbed up via Arnfield Brook, visiting the Seven Falls first and then the Lancaster and Lightning sites before dropping down to the Hurricanes (nice walk).

My route on OutdoorActive here: https://out.ac/IBXa7i

The fourth picture shows the "new" prop shaft find. It looks like a Merlin prop shaft and gear and was ~75m from the Hurricanes cairn but it seems odd I haven't seen it before and that nobody else has reported it. It's possible it's from the Lancaster.

Interesting. I'll take a wander up next time I have a free day

Hi John, the old wreckage is still there, though the extensive burn at the site makes it a little hard to find without accurate gridrefs. I saw your new bit too. I have no idea how I could have missed this a dozen times before, I must have walked over it many times if it hasn't been moved to the new location, as it is on the straight lien for the obvious fence crossing to the known wreckage...Thanks for the tip...

Hi a large gear like the one pictured was present with 2 more at the lanc site in the early 90 s it went missing at the same time a crank shaft and armour plate vanished it could possibly be that gear

Thanks, Anon. I wondered if that might be the case. However, if you look at my most recent pics, you can see that the gear at the Hurricanes site has bright stainless fixings on its face, and the same fixings on gears at the Lancaster site are corroded carbon steel.

Just checked an old photo from the 80s and although the gears are clearly on it I cannot make out the fixings on the subject of hurricanes have you any info on the hoarstone edge crash site?

Hi Anon, Pat Cunningham gives SE01316 01712/439m for the site, states John Ownsworth found a bolt and a few scraps there in "Peakland Air Crashes : The North"
