Boeing RB-29A (F-13A) Superfortress 44-61999

Went back to the Superfortress at Shelf Stones yesterday, for the sake of completeness. The moors were officially closed due to extreme fire risk, but neither of us were smokers, and it seemed everyone else was ignoring the advice too...

The memorial at the top right of this pic (behind the radial engine) is at:

Location: SK 09042 94892.

Me and family managed to find this site, thanks to the coordinates on this blog. Thanks!

We also observed a pack of vultures discussing how best to break off parts of engine to take home. In your experience, is it worth trying to report them to the police (or other agency)?

I've not had the experience, but I suppose I'd warn them that it's illegal to taken anything, and if they persisted, call the police. I have no idea how seriously they would take it...

A slideshow of some pictures of the site can be found on my flickr account here
