Ringinglow V1 gyroscope?

This was apparently found near Ringinglow, and is believed by the finder to be a V1 gyroscope, despite no reports of V1s in the area.

For some reason, this was our most popular Flickr picture ever. 2250 views as of now...

Again, no idea, but that's nice, have you posted it over on the Aero part Identity board yet?

It's not from a V1 or V2. Asking someone who knows about British rockets if it might be one of ours, but I'm leaning towards gyroscopic gunsight: http://www.429sqn.ca/acmgs.htm

Are there any exposed threads you could check the size of, presumably British, German and American thread choices would have been different.

could be worth a go...

Know what it is now....

...but not why it is...;)

I wonder why it is in one piece and not a million exploded fragments? Was the same basic gyro also used in aircraft?

I don't believe so. This isn't however the first torpedo found in the peak district.
