Gloster Meteor F Mk.4 RA487 : Looting

Nipped in on our way past the other day to find that all that remains at the Hagg Side crash site is this bit of armour plate. Shame on you, looters!

Over a decade on from this post and I suppose it's good news to report from a 28/01/2023 visit that the armour plate is still there and there were a few other bits scattered around near the wall that I've collected and put back in the crater.

Not sure if this link to a Facebook image will work but I'll give it a go:

My grid ref was SK 16579 89057 - only from my phone and I'm making no claim it's more accurate from the others given above. Either are near enough to get you there.

It is decades since my previous visit and I hadn't realised there is a path not on the OS maps that comes up from Derwent Overlook Car Park and passes within 50m of the site. My dim recollection of finding it was following the track up from the Bridge End parking then dropping down to it through the woods from the intersection with the path that comes up past Hagg Farm. On Saturday, I spotted a tempting forestry gate and track at the right height and in the right direction on my way up the track from the Bridge End Car Park. Don't be tempted :) The track peters out and the new evergreen planting as you get closer to the site is really dense and took some getting through. Use the other path :)

Thanks John, your link has expired, but I saw your pic before it expired, looks like some stuff has made its way back. I'll have to take a walk up sometime. I have got up there from various points, usually on my way over to the Defiant, I think from memory...
